Goblin Looper
Poem: A goblin stood there, handsome bloke. The dials spun backward through the day. He sighed, “You still ain’t got the joke.” “I’ve told you this in every way.”
Goblin Looper
I built a clock from brass and steam,
It ticked a week before it woke.
The pistons hissed with copper gleam,
Then coughed and belched a cloud of smoke.
It ticked a week before it woke,
A goblin stood there, handsome bloke.
Then coughed and belched a cloud of smoke,
He sighed, “You still ain’t got the joke.”
A goblin stood there, handsome bloke.
The dials spun backward through the day.
He sighed, “You still ain’t got the joke.”
“I’ve told you this in every way.”
The dials spun backward through the day,
I asked him why he looked so sore.
“I’ve told you this in every way.”
Then barred the workshop’s iron door.
I asked him why he looked so sore,
He snatched a wrench, let out a scream.
Then barred the workshop’s iron door,
And smashed the valve that fed the steam.
He snatched a wrench, let out a scream,
My goggles matched the pair he wore.
And smashed the valve that fed the steam,
And muttered, “I can’t take no more.”
My goggles matched the pair he wore,
The pistons hissed with copper gleam.
And muttered, “I can’t take no more.”
I built a clock from brass and steam.

This is really good. I love the poem just as a poem but the pattern of repeating lines is brilliantly done.
Does this type of poem have a ‘formal’ name?
I doff my cap to you, remarkable. I will revisit in the morning. 🙏
