Highland Crowd
Poem Song Lyrics: Welcome to my clan ground We don’t lay down Pipes gonna sound loud When you come round This is our land now Stand tall, stand proud You don’t want trouble In a Highland crowd
Today’s inspiration sent me down an unexpected rabbit hole. I decided to try my hand at writing song lyrics. I’ve always believed that if I could write a good poem, surely I could write a good song. After all, poems have rhythm and beat, right?
Well.
Turns out a lovely poem does not automatically translate into a great song.
So let me rewind a bit. This piece was created using Suno, an AI music app. I wrote the lyrics, described the style I wanted, put all that into Suno and let it do its thing. Then I listened. And learned. And questioned whether my ears would ever stop bleeding.
What I discovered is that songwriting is its own beast, filled with a different kind of structure, hooks and let’s not forget repetition. And AI generators require very specific instructions unless you want something that sounds like it should have been binned.
After a bit of research, restructuring, rewriting and a mild of frustration and money, I finally landed on this original piece.
Now I know some of you are already clutching your pearls and wailing, “But Verdant, what about the starving indie musicians?”
To which I say, for pity’s sake, I am not abandoning the literary world to launch a surprise Celtic rock career with one experimental track.
Haud yer wheesht and enjoy Highland Crowd By Yours truly.

[Intro – spoken, gritty]
You see that hill?
Yeah.
That’s ours.
[Verse 1]
Stone in the wall
Name in the dirt
Blood in the ground
We put in the work
Fire don’t die
Steel don’t rust
You step in here
You step on us
[Pre-Chorus]
We don’t fold
We don’t run
You’re facing all
When you face one
[Chorus]
Welcome to my clan ground
We don’t lay down
Pipes gonna sound loud
When you come round
This is our land now
Stand tall, stand proud
You don’t want trouble
In a Highland crowd
[Verse 2]
Bread on the table
Blade by the door
Peace if you’re able
War if you’re sure
Circle is tight
Lines are drawn
Touch one name
You’re touching them all
[Pre-Chorus]
We don’t fold
We don’t run
You’re facing all
When you face one
[Chorus]
Welcome to my clan ground
We don’t lay down
Pipes gonna sound loud
When you come round
This is our land now
Stand tall, stand proud
You don’t want trouble
In a Highland crowd
[Bridge – drum build, rise]
From the glen to the city lights
From old stone walls to the fight
We carry the fire they left behind
Name by name, line by line
Test these hills
Cross that line
When the pipes start rising
You’ll know this ground is mine
[Final Chorus – full band, gang vocals]
Welcome to my clan ground
We don’t lay down
Pipes gonna sound loud
When you come round
This is our land now
Stand tall, stand proud
You don’t want trouble
In a Highland crowd
Highland crowd

Day 25 of Bradley Ramsey’s Flash Fiction February: “The Wandering Outlaw”
You’ve heard tales of the Wandering Outlaw. A mysterious figure who sticks to the shadows. He’s wanted in every frontier town throughout the Wild West, but no one’s ever caught him. Some say he’s possessed. That he made a deal with a demon in exchange for otherwordly power.
You could care less about his story, though. The Wandering Outlaw killed your family, and you’re out for revenge. Nothing, not even the powers of hell, are going to stop you...
My take, This is a song about clan and family mess with one of us, you mess with all of us.

Fun stuff - kind of catchy - I like what Dave said about the workout jam - could be fun high pace sprint segment — nicely done
Fun!!!
